Construction of cells 10 and 11, capping and biogas capture
project outline
The City of Rimouski wished to expand the functional area of its technical landfill site through the addition of new cells and to cap existing cells that had reached their maximum confinement capacity. This would reduce the quantity of leachate produced by the site and therefore reduce leachate treatment load.
The project comprised the construction of two new cells 10 and 11, the capping of cell 6 and the partial capping of cells 2, 7 and 9, as well as the installation of a biogas capture system in compliance with applicable regulations.
The new cells cover an area of around 17,000 m2, integrating a two-layer 1.5mm PeHD geombrane impermeability system and a liquid capture and elimination system (for leachate and water). The capping of the existing cell covers an area of around 16,500 m2 and includes a single-layer 1mm PeHD geombrane material impermeability system and a biogas capture and elimination system with 5 vertical biogas extraction wells.
